While I agree that learning the language, listening, making people feeling like they belong and cultivating a culture of empathy are important…We have found that when the student ‘comes-out’ they keep it secret from the leaders and do not openly discuss their attractions with them. But rather, they talk with their peers only, so all the other students know and are talking about it (and the leaders hear it through the grapevine). So the leaders need to know how to approach this without making the student feel like they are cornered.
So, this podcast really was not all that helpful (and a bit wishy-washy). When the call-in question was asked…it was not really answered…there was a bunch of talking points, without getting to the point of how to ‘actually’ deal with this issue (with examples).
